The Gord Downie
1.5 oz Rye
1 oz Simple Syrup
1/2 oz County Maple Vinegar
1 tsp Brown Sugar
A few splashes of Ginger Ale
Austrian Holiday Cookies
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup blanched slivered almonds, ground
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup of your favourite County Fare jam
Preheat oven to 350F . Grease cookie sheet, or use parchment paper on cookie sheet.
In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and lemon peel. In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, almonds, cinnamon and cloves. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. If the dough is stiff, knead it by hand to get it to come together. Split the dough in half.
Roll out half of the dough on a lightly floured surface, and cut with chosen cookie cutter. Spread the jam over each individual cookie.
On a lightly floured surface, roll the remaining dough and cut with same cookie cutter. Then cut out middle of each piece with a much smaller cookie cutter. Lightly place each cookie over the jam on the previously cut cookies.
Bake 40 minutes or until top is golden. Cool in pan on wire rack.
Over Ice ~
1/2 oz Mint Vinegar
1/2 oz Lime Cordial
A splash of Club Soda
Garnish with Fresh Mint and Lime
Hail of a Caesar
Over Ice ~
1.5 oz Vodka (Optional - it’s just as tasty without it!)
1/2 oz Hot Pepper Garlic Vinegar
A splash of Worcester Sauce
A splash of your choice of lime juice or lemon juice
Fill remainder of glass with Clamato juice
Garnish with cracked pepper, and a slice of lime or lemon
